The Brazilian aeronaut and sportsman Alberto Santos Dumont is considered the inventor of the airplane. He also designed, built and flown the first gas-powered blimps. It was recognized worldwide when it skirted the Eiffel Tower with its airship and became one of the most famous people in the world during the twentieth century.

The first approved flight in the history of aviation was on November 12, 1906. On this day, its 14-Bis plane flew 220 meters, six meters high, for 21 minutes, winning the Airclub Prize of France, also In Bagatelle.

When Santos Dumont discovered that his invention was being used in the war, Santos Dumont became sad and sick. Some say he committed suicide because of this. He died at the age of 59 in 1932.
